Criminal Justice Contacts with Students: District Attorneys & Law Enforcement Agencies

In 2015, H.B. 15-1273 was enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado and signed on June 5, 2015. H.B. 15-1273 expanded on H.B. 12-1345 (Concerning the Funding of Public Schools). Included in the bill are mandates for both law enforcement and district attorneys to collect data on criminal justice contacts with students and report annually to the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) by August 1 of every year, any criminal justice contacts with students that occurred between August 1 and July 31 of the immediately preceding school year. Data collection requirements for law enforcement can be found in C.R.S. 22-32-146 and for District Attorneys in C.R.S. 20-1-113.
